YAKESHI, Inner Mongolia – Porsche is still six months away from presenting the production version of the Taycan at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, but preparations are already underway for the launch of the sports car maker's first pure electric sports car in China early next year.

A big part of that will be charging infrastructure, and Porsche will work both on its own and with local charging providers, according to Dr. -Ing. Jens Puttfarcken, president and CEO of Porsche China.

Dr. -Ing. Jens Puttfarcken

"We are concentrating now on three main charging facilities," Puttfarcken told CBU/CARin an interview on February 26 on the sidelines of the Porsche Snow Force 2019. Those will entail Porsche's 800V ultra-fast charging at its dealerships, home charging as well as convenience or destination charging.

It will begin to deliver to its entire dealerships very specific charging infrastructure based on 800V ultra-fast charging similar to what has been rolled out in some parts of Germany, with爱乐透彩票网开奖结果-Porsche "charging" ahead for Taycan launch in China slight variations, according to Puttfarcken. It will also be concentrating on home charging, which Porsche sees as the most preferred charging choice for customers in about 80 percent of the cases. It will also partner with locations such as hotels, restaurants and shopping centers where its customers frequently visit by offering specific charging solutions along with parking solutions.

"All of this will happen in the second ha爱乐透彩票网开奖结果-Porsche "charging" ahead for Taycan launch in Chinalf of this year for the sale of the Taycan at the beginning of 2020," said Puttfarcken.

One local charging provider that Porsche will work with, according to Puttfarcken, is Star Charge, which will localize a fast charging solution developed by Porsche Engineering.

So far, response from Chinese customers – both existing Porsche owners and people new to the brand – has been positive since Porsche began taking pre-orders for the Taycan from its dealers and online about half a year ago: between 1,200 and 1,400 Chinese customers have put down a 20,000 deposit to be among the first to get more information on the Taycan.

"We achieved very positive feedback and it mirrors the development we see in the big cities for stronger demand of pure electric mobility," said Puttfarcken. Due to strong demand already in nearly every major region of the world, Porsche has decided to increase initial production volume of the Taycan to about 20,000-40,000 cars.

The Taycan, along with the next generation of the Macan, which Porsche announced on February 26 will become a fully electric model only, are part of the company's threepronged electrification strategy, covering optimized combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and pure electric cars. By 2022, Porsche will be investing more than €6 billion in electric mobility, and by 2025 half of all new Porsche vehicles sold globally will have an electric drive system.

This year, Puttfarcken expects about 10 percent of Porsche's sales volume in China, or nearly 10,000 units, to be electrified. One of the models that will see a significant volume increase this year is the Cayenne E Hybrid, a plugin hybrid version of the Cayenne launched last November only available in China. Last year, the model accounted for nearly 10 percent of all Cayennes sold in the country and this year that proportion could double, according to Puttfarcken. The Panamera, also a popular model in China, saw sales more than double last year and plug-in hybrid versions accounted for about 7-8 percent of the volume.

Thanks to these electrified models, Porsche earned more than 4,000 credits on new energy vehicles last year, pending official fi爱乐透彩票网开奖结果-Porsche "charging" ahead for Taycan launch in Chinagures published by the Chinese government later this year, according to Puttfarcken.

"To our calculation which we have to supply to the Chinese government, we 爱乐透彩票网开奖结果-Porsche "charging" ahead for Taycan launch in Chinahave a very positive surplus outcome," said Puttfarcken. "In 2018 we had more than what we actually used, so we will 爱乐透彩票网开奖结果-Porsche "charging" ahead for Taycan launch in Chinause them for 2019."

He noted that 2019 will be a special year because manufacturers have to manage the change in emissions regulations from China 5 to China 6, which apply to combustion engine models as well as plug-in hybrids, thus the higher proportion of plug-in hybrids in the volume mix. The new Macan launched last July is already a China-6 model and most other key models will make the transition in Q2 2019.

"Due to this change, we will have a little bit slower start, but we intend to have a good and maybe even better year in 2019 than in 2018," said Puttfarcken.

Last year, Porsche delivered 80,108 vehicles in China, up 12 percent year-on-year and ranking as its largest global market for the fourth consecutive year in a row, despite challenging market conditions.

Puttfarcken attributed that performance to building and delivering cars to its customers which they really want to have, and refreshing key model lines.

"All of our product lines enjoyed a lot of positive feedback from Chinese customers and we have had a very lucky situation to achieve these goals and numbe爱乐透彩票网开奖结果-Porsche "charging" ahead for Taycan launch in Chinars," said Puttfarcken. "We were also happy to party 70 years of Porsche, this was a big theme for our customers that they can see we are a brand with a history, but deeply rooted into China and into the future."

Porsche also expanded its diversified sales network composed of Porsche Centers, Porsche Studios, Porsche City Service Centers and Porsche Pop-up Stores, addressing ever changing and innovative demands of Chinese customers. Currently it has established 116 operational sales sites in China, Hong Kong and Macau and the 我的世界籽岷plan for 2019 is to add about 10 more.

"We found out it is important to have in different locations and different spots serving differently to our customers," said Puttfarcken. "This is something that we want to intensify because we believe the necessities of different customer groups in different locations are different. So we want to really match the offer that we have to the exact expectations of our customers."

Porsche also upgraded its brand experience with the opening of the Porsche Experience Center in Shanghai in April, attracting over 10,000 visitors in 2018 and integrating driving experience, travel experience, track experience and ice experience. Porsche Club China continued to grow, attracting 6,200 members by the end of 2018.

Last year, it signed more than 27,000 financial service contracts in China, with a market penetration rate of 35 percent – 11 percentage points higher than that of 2017. Porsche's pre-owned car business achieved a growth of more than 50 percent year-on-year.

Looking ahead, Puttfarcken believes that 2019 will still be a challenging year for the whole car industry in China but like 2018 the premium segment will be on a slow growth path. The first half of the year will be a little bit tougher due to the China 5 to China 6 emissions transition which means some of the model lines will go out of production temporarily. But Puttfarcken remains confident about the market prospects for the year.

"I know the Chinese government is very wisely looking into the situation and thinking about the right impulses they need to give to private consumption in China," said Puttfarcken. "The most important thing is we always closely monitor what is going on in the market, and we will only deliver cars to the market that customers really want in order to safeguard our premium position."
